Durable and impact-resistant
The special properties of Spectrum Smart ABS include high impact resistance and relatively high stiffness. The Smart version offers improved processing properties that significantly reduce the difficulties often associated with production using conventional ABS. Most important are lower shrinkage and lower emission of irritating fumes during processing. An undeniable advantage is that the material keeps its properties at temperatures as low as –40°C.
Compared with conventional ABS, Smart ABS is characterised by:
- lower shrinkage
- glossy print surface
- lower printing temperature
- increased flow
The possibility of chemical treatment (acetone vapour) of Smart ABS makes it possible to obtain an extremely smooth surface on printed parts. Parts treated in this way are therefore often used in industrial design and in the wider decorative and design industry.
Material properties
- high impact resistance and stiffness together with relatively high dimensional accuracy
- high surface gloss
- reduced warping (0.5–0.7%)
- HDT – 85°C
- Vicat softening temperature – 93°C
- good layer adhesion, especially when using a 3D printer with a heated enclosure
- low water absorption
- easy post-processing (sanding, drilling, sawing)
Applications
- production of all kinds of cases, covers, guards and similar objects that are exposed to impacts
- the possibility of mechanical post-processing makes it possible to produce parts that make installations easier, e.g. handles, dipsticks and gauges
- final-use parts
- industrial design
- tools
- custom-made components
How to use
- Nozzle temperature [°C]: 240–270°C
- Bed temperature [°C]: 80–100°C
- Recommended print speed [mm/s]: 40–200 mm/s
- Cooling: 0–50%
- Enclosure: recommended for larger prints
- Filament dryer recommended: No
- Ruby or hardened nozzle recommended: No
- Adhesive: not required (to improve adhesion or prevent warping: LANDU, Dimafix, 3DLac, Magigoo)
