SafeGuard PLA

Surface protection with antibacterial technology

SafeGuard PLA is an advanced PLA printing filament with antibacterial properties, designed to protect surfaces against harmful microorganisms, viruses, biofilms, algae and mould.

Tests according to ISO 22196 on 3D-printed samples show that SafeGuard PLA is over 99.9% cleaner than regular PLA. The material was tested against the bacteria E. coli and Staphylococcus, two of the most common bacterial species, and the results confirm that SafeGuard PLA significantly reduces the attachment of microorganisms to the surface of printed parts. The material is therefore particularly well suited to objects with high hygiene requirements.

A key advantage of SafeGuard PLA is that the antibacterial properties last for the entire lifetime of the material. Unlike solutions based on copper or silver, SafeGuard PLA does not lose its effectiveness over time. The material is also 100% biocide-free and contains no substances that can leach out of printed parts and pose a risk to users. The technology used in SafeGuard PLA is safe, non-toxic and prevents active substances from migrating out of the material, which also reduces the risk of bacteria developing resistance.

SafeGuard PLA is particularly well suited to making everyday utility items, such as kitchen utensils and aquarium decorations, where the material significantly reduces the formation of algae and biofilms. Responsibility for the use of SafeGuard PLA and the purpose it is used for rests with the user. To ensure maximum safety, appropriate tests should always be carried out on 3D-printed objects before they are used in environments with high hygiene requirements.

Key features

  • Long-lasting antibacterial effect that does not diminish over time.
  • 100% biocide-free.
  • No substances migrate out of the material (no migration), which prevents the development of bacterial resistance.
  • Reduces the growth of bacteria, biofilm, algae and mould on the surface.
  • Well suited for a wide range of practical items that require extra hygiene.
  • Ideal for aquarium decorations as it reduces the growth of algae and biofilm

PLA Safeguard is a brittle material and is not easy to print. We recommend drying the material straight out of the box and possibly printing a temp tower to find the right settings for your conditions.
